Building Department

The Building Department oversees both commercial and residential construction.  The City requires that all contractors and subcontractors doing work in the City be registered. Residents hiring contractors to do work on their property are encouraged to call the Building Department to inquire as to whether or not their contractor is registered. Residents may also visit the Building Department and ask for a list of registered contractors when looking to have work done on their property.  (*A list of registered contractors is in no way a list of recommendations.)

Any new structures including decks, additions, sheds, and fences require the approval of the Architectural Board of Review and/or Board of Zoning Appeals.  Interior remodels and patio/driveway placement require approval from the Building Official.  Please contact the Building Department with questions.  The contractor or the homeowner may apply for the permits. All permit applications for the project must be submitted together.  When the permits have been approved and are ready to be picked up, the homeowner or the contractor will be contacted with the amount due on the permits.  If the contractor has applied and paid for the permits, the homeowner has the right to ask for a copy of the permits.

Permits may be picked up Monday thru Friday 8am – 4pm.
Permits may be paid for by cash or check.
